2014 Spring/Summer Fashion Week review!

Hello lovelies,

This is a completely new thing for me as usually most of my posts revolve around products I have bought and reviewed however, this is a review of the Spring and Summer trends across fashion weeks this year.
Recently I applied for a Fashion Retailing Course which entailed an article of similar content which I thoroughly enjoyed researching and writing about so I thought... why not do a similar post on my blog?! I understand I have no experience in this what so ever and it may not be everyone's cup of tea, however, all feedback is welcomed so let me know what you think about this style of post!

With winter in sight I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to look back over the key trends of Spring/Summer Fashion weeks of 2014

This years Fashion Weeks around the globe clearly highlighted the key trends and must haves for Spring/Summer 2014. In particular, 4 main aspects sprung out frequently; Florals, Pastels and Pinks, Pleats and Art.

It was no shock that Florals were going to be a huge trend this year; from prints perfect for festivals to elegant floral patterns - this was a must have for spring/summer 2014. An explosion of florals burst from the catwalks during Fashion Weeks as designers such as Mary Katrantzoe, with her jewel encrusted 3D posies, refined this seasons flower-strewn trend. Florals for summer is definitely not ground braking news however this years florals seemed to have had a serious makeover as designers turned to roses, poppies and camellias to bring the countryside into the busy fashion world through detailed embroidery, fabrics and print.
The majority of clothing released for this years Spring/Summer 2014 collections were to be found in pretty pastels and an array of pinks. It was seen that pastels were a huge trend as a rainbow of soft springtime shades reigned throughout collections ranging from spearmind to Paramaviolet. The runways also made a strong case in favour of pink as the new 'it' colour as catwalks presented pale blush tones, candy floss hues and fushia shades - leaving us all looking forward to the season through rose tinted spectacles.

Stripped from its primary school connotations, the pleat was given a fashion upgrade, allowing it to become a top trend. Far from being stiff and serious, pleats became softer and more feminine through foiled finishes, ombre'd effects and sheer fabrics. Metallic pleats, such as Givenchy's metallic pleated wonder, provided a sophisticated way to bring a little bling to skirts and dresses, while delicate pleats on billowing dresses gave a feminine touch; perfect for springtime.

Clearly highlighted through Yves Saint Laurent's famous Mondrian dress; art has a massive influence in the world of fashion, particularly for the collections seen throughout fashion weeks for spring/summer 2014. 'Fashion is art' is a phrase that comes to mind when viewing the mueseum worthy pieces that strutted down the runway this year. Loud pop art prints and bold brush strokes features greatly on dresses, coats and even shoes. Sketch books were carried down catwalks like accessories as we were promised a season illustrated in fine art.

The moral of this story, so beautifully illistrated through this years spring/summer fashion weeks seems to be; if in doubt, make it pink and  embellish it with pretty floral print or artistic brush strokes. And if its not pink, it should be pleated.

Thank you all so much (as always) for taking the time to read my silly little posts, let me know what you think about this style as I know it is unusual.
I hope to be posting again very soon!

Much love xo
